宮崎優也(みやざき ゆうや)|指揮者
1988年東京都生まれ。高校卒業後に渡米し、指揮・音楽学・神経心理学を学ぶ。ノーステキサス大学大学院にて音楽修士号を取得後、博士課程単位取得満期退学。これまでに指揮をDavid Itkin、Dian Tchobanov、Gregory Buchalter、Tomáš Netopil、村方千之、作劇法をStephen Dubberly、音楽学をPeter Mondelliに師事。
在学中より音楽活動を開始し、Abilene Philharmonicをはじめ、米国各地のプロ・オーケストラおよび歌劇場において副指揮者や教育プログラムの指揮を務める。2016年から2019年にかけてはDallas Asian American Youth Orchestraの指揮者として、同団初となる欧州公演(ウィーン、ザルツブルク)を実現するなど、若手音楽家の育成にも力を注いだ。また、Texas Academy of Mathematics and Scienceではオーケストラ・ディレクターを務め、教育現場における実践的な指導を行った。
オペラ分野では、2016年にブルガリア・Varna International Opera Festivalに副指揮者として招聘され、翌2017年には指揮者として招聘されコープランド作曲『テンダーランド』を指揮し、ヨーロッパ・デビューを果たす。その後もイタリアAccademia Europea dell’Operaなどに招かれ、国際的な歌劇制作の現場で経験を重ねるとともに、後進の指導にも携わる。
約11年間の米国での活動を経て帰国後は、堺シティオペラにてアーティスティックディレクター兼事務局長を歴任し、芸術面と運営面の双方から組織を牽引した。現在、フリーランスの指揮者としてオペラ、オーケストラ、吹奏楽、合唱など幅広い分野で演奏活動を展開。近年では関西歌劇団・関西二期会によるオペラ・ガラ公演を大阪クラシックにて指揮。これまでに『ボエーム』『トスカ』『ルサルカ』『こうもり』をはじめ、20作品以上のオペラ公演に携わる。
文化政策分野においては、大阪アーツカウンシル統括責任者を歴任。現在は日本芸術文化振興会プログラム・オフィサー(音楽分野)を務める。また、龍谷大学国際学部(音楽芸術論)および関西学院大学(文化政策)にて非常勤講師として教鞭を執る。
指揮活動に加え、教育・研究・文化政策の領域を横断し、芸術の本質的価値と社会との接続を探る実践を展開している。
Conductor Yuya Miyazaki was born in Tokyo in 1988. After graduating from high school, he moved to the United States, where he studied conducting, musicology, and neuropsychology. He earned a Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas and subsequently completed doctoral coursework. His principal teachers include David Itkin, Dian Tchobanov, Gregory Buchalter, Tomáš Netopil, and Chiyuki Murakata in conducting; Stephen Dubberly in stage direction; and Peter Mondelli in musicology.
While still a student, he began his professional career, serving as assistant conductor and leading educational programs with orchestras and opera companies across the United States, including the Abilene Philharmonic. From 2016 to 2019, he served as conductor of the Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra, leading the ensemble on its first European tour to Vienna and Salzburg, while actively contributing to the development of young musicians. He also worked as Orchestra Director at the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science, where he engaged in practical and educational instruction.
In the field of opera, he was invited as an assistant conductor to the Varna International Opera Festival in Bulgaria in 2016, and returned in 2017 as a conductor to lead Copland’s The Tender Land, marking his European debut. He has since been invited to institutions such as the Accademia Europea dell’Opera in Italy, where he has gained extensive experience in international opera production while mentoring emerging artists.
After approximately eleven years of professional activity in the United States, he returned to Japan and served as Artistic Director and General Manager of the Sakai City Opera, leading the organization from both artistic and administrative perspectives. He is currently active as a freelance conductor, working across opera, orchestral, wind ensemble, and choral repertoire. In recent years, he has conducted opera gala performances by the Kansai Opera Company and the Kansai Nikikai at Osaka Classic. To date, he has been involved in more than 20 opera productions, including La Bohème, Tosca, Rusalka, and Die Fledermaus.
In the field of cultural policy, he has served as Chief Director of the Osaka Arts Council and currently works as a Program Officer (Music) at the Japan Arts Council. He also teaches as a part-time lecturer at the Ryukoku University (Music and the Arts), and at Kwansei Gakuin University (Cultural Policy).
In addition to his conducting activities, he works across the fields of education, research, and cultural policy, exploring the essential value of the arts and their connection to society.
